Hi,

I have a bit of an issue with Yahoo Store and maybe you have a workaround that we can use. The problem that I have is that when I do alot of orders it is easiest to just use the update shipment status feature after the upload of tracking information from FedEx. The problem is that smtp is very, very unreliable with my ISP so I have tried to use GoDaddy's secure smtpout service (can't get it to work yet but still on it). For email we use an Exchange server service from Intermedia.net and it works perfectly. Is there a way maybe of having SM send the email through Outlook?? That way if the server is down it will put it in the Outbox. Updating Yahoo for over 100 orders would take a long while and that is why I would rather email them. Suggestions other than finding a new ISP (Bell DSL is the only economical solution where we are).

Ok. I now got GoDaddy's smtpout service working in Outlook Express can the same settings don't work in SM.

The settings are

SMTP server: smtpout.secureserver.net
My Server Requires Authentication (checked)
Port: 80 (no ssl required)
User: alerts(at)nathanfreedman.com
Password: (will send you a private message)

Hopefully you can see what I am getting when using SM. There is a limit of 250 relays per day but I have only used it less than 5 times and it still works through Outlook Express.

Now I am trying to give you (or is that me) all the options to get a reliable SMTP connection. I have another provider that we use for exchange hosting and we have smtp relaying setup with them now but you need a ssl connection to the server which I can't do with your software. I can send you the parameters if we can't get the godaddy one to work.

Nathan,

Thanks for sending me the connection information.  I will do some tests and get back to you.

After sleeping on this idea as well. I think a choice to use Outlook (or you default external mailing program) would be best. The only thing I don't want to loose is the auto entry into the notes field of the email template you used (I use it for RAs and the such) and to make sure the updating of shipment status still works going through an external email program. Then I don't have to worry about firewalls and the such as I use Exchange/Outlook and it works perfectly and will store the email in the outbox if the server is done. I think the SM email times out too quickly and doesn't have an outbox (mainly cause it's not an email program ;o)

Nathan,

I had considered adding the ability to create emails in the default mailing program instead of internally.  SM would still offer both, it would just allow you to check a setting to use your default mail client.  This may take a little time, but we could work toward that.

Nathan,

I tried to connect to your SMTP server.  When I attempted to send I got a response from the server:

QuoteSMTP Error: DATA command rejected
553: Sorry, that domain isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts

I tried to send to a couple of different addresses.  It seems that this server is for very limited access, probably intended to be used for only a specific purpose?  Do you have another one I can try?

Thanks,
David

Hi David,

I don't want to waste your time. I think a fix that uses Outlook for sending email as an option would fix my problem indefinately. More reliable and you don't have to worry about SM timing out cause it can't see the server (not an SM issue, it's a ISP issue). Also it's time to talk to the SMTP server so why do it that way. Let it do it in the background and send the email on it's own time. Not mine! Also SMTP servers go down all the time.

Can you give me an approx. timeframe as to implementation cause I don't know how hard it is for you to do. Of course I would never hold you to a date, more like just curious.

Nathan,

Looking at what is on the horizon right now I would approximate we could add this functionality within the next two months.
It could be much sooner than that, but that would be a worst expected.

Ok. Now I am just frustrated with our ISP (Bell in Canada). There SMTP server is down again and of course it's on a high volume day where it will take a long time to update yahoo. I have 3 smtp servers.

1) Bell my local ISP (and only choice). Is always down.
2) GoDaddy's relay service. Which doesn't work with SM but works with Outlook Express.
3) Intermedia.net which Bell doens't allow port 25 to send through.

Yes an ISP that blocks you from using another SMTP provider even when there's doesn't work.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
