A couple of questions about "variant codes"

Okay, so I'm not totally sure I'm using the correct terminology here, but I'll do my best. I've been having a couple of questions about getting our SKU's to line up in SM with the options for each item, which I think you call variant codes.

1. Is there any way to not have to re-map the "alternative code" any time the options change for that item? For example, let's say we have five different colored plates. The blue plate goes on sale. It now has a different price than the other four, so the option is changed from "Blue" to "Blue ($10)". We now have to go in and copy the alternative code from the old option to the new one. This gets very time-consuming during sales. Does anyone have a better idea?

2. We've been having this weird issue lately where SM shows a product as having two options, even though really it only has one. It won't let me delete one, and that creates a huge issue with variant codes. Instead of "Blue" or "Red" or "Orange," I get endless combinations that don't really exist, like "Blue-Red" "Blue-Blue" or, my favorite, "Blue-Choose a Color."
I've talked to our marketing department about this, and they don't know why it would be happening, as each of our products is set up with only one option. Ben had the idea that maybe if we had two products with the same product ID, it could cause this? But we hoped Yahoo wouldn't let you do this. It's only with a couple of products, and only at one of our stores. If anyone has any ideas for a workaround, that would be helpful as well.

finnstyle,

1. Currently there is not any other way to do this.  We have considered adding wildcards to variant names so that you could define a variant as "Blue*" for example and it would accept either the "Blue" or "Blue ($10)" item, but so far we have not added this.

2. Ben is right.  If you have two products with the same code this could happen.  When a new order comes in with an item that has options SuperManager has not seen before it looks up the product by its product code and adds the options to the first product it finds.  If you have two products with the same code it may add them to a product it doesn't belong to.

David

1. That would be so crazy cool, you have no idea. Please add to wishlist!

2. How can I fix it?

To fix the problems with the overlapping product codes you will have to change the product codes in your store manager and re-download the product database.

finnstyle,

In version 1.2.8.0 we have switched from using the product id from Yahoo rather than the product code to index the product list.  I beleive this will correct this problem.  Download the update and let us know if there is any improvement.
