Title: Unable to retrieve downloaded file (1003)
Post by: dcmerchant on August 11, 2011, 07:02:37 AM
"Unable to retrieve downloaded file (1003)." Our Supermanager is down. Cryptonite in the system?

This error occurred suddenly yesterday afternoon on all of our Super Manager terminals using beta ver 1.4.7.1 with Yahoo Store. SM recognizes that there are new orders, momentarily displays the typical "downloading orders 123 - 124", but then fails to complete the operation. Windows XP Pro had 10+ updates yesterday morning; our failure occurred some hours after that. We are still out of business with this system failure and need to get Supermanager going again asap please help!

I have already tried all firewall options: added SuperManager.exe to the exception list, as well as turning it off and on again, reboot and the like. I really do not want to start uninstalling yesterday's updates one by one in hopes of finding the offender.

I tried our Windows 2000 Pro machine and it too fails. That means that any updates from yesterday are very unlikely to be causing this problem.  It looks like something has changed at yahoo to cause this new panic. Yahoo had been making changes to their system last week. I personally am not shouting "Yahoo!" at the moment :(

Doug, Jason,

This problem was actually caused by a Microsoft Internet Explorer patch that was rolled out two nights ago.  If you are using Windows 7 or Vista you can fix this problem by updating to IE9.  If not, please see this post:

Hello,
We are currently working on this issue to determine what the problem is with the latest Windows IE8 update for users on Windows XP.

For windows 7 and windows Vista users, please update to IE9.  This will solve the issue.

Since IE9 is not available for Windows XP, we have 2 temporary workarounds for you until we have a perminent solution for this problem.

1.  You can manually download orders by following the instructions here:
http://www.thesupermanager.com/forum/index.php/topic,971.0.html

2.  You can uninstall the latest IE8 Security Update

Before you begin, close down all programs.

a. in Windows, click "Start->Control Panel" and then open your "Add or Remove Programs" item
b. Wait for the full list to be populated with your programs and then check the box next to "Show Updates"
c. Scroll to the bottom of the list and find the "Windows Internet Explorer 8" Program
d. Located the "Security Update for Windows Internet Explorer 8 (KB2559049) towards the bottom of the update list
e. Click the "KB2559049" item in the list and then click "Remove"
f. Follow the instructions to remove the Security Update including restarting your computer

Once Windows restarts you should be able to open and download orders in the Supermanager.

Please subscribe to this forum post so you will receive an email when a permanent solution is available.

We apologize for this inconvenience and we hope to have a fix soon.

Mike

1. Remove IE9 and go back to IE8
2. Remove secuirty update KB2559049, as mention in other post.

this work once computer was restarted.

Todd,

As long as you have windows 7 you should be able to just update to Internet Explorer 9 and it will work.

I just started getting error code 1003 unable to retrieve downloaded file.  Check the fire wall settings.  (Never had this issue in the last 3 years)

I have not updated anything on my computer that I know of recently.  There could have been an automatic windows update, but that would be it.

I only use Windows Vista for my firewall and SuperManager is listed as a  program option to allow to access through firewall.  I have turned the firewall off and have restarted the computer with the same results.

I can log into the site using Open Store Manager without any issue.

I then tried to update SM, but I received another error.

Any ideas?

Just want to let you know that I also have not been able to download orders automatically since late
last week.  I did find your workaround, and it is working for now.

Has the issue been fixed yet? And if not, could you give a status update on where you are at for this fix?

Thanks in advance,

I was successfully able to use the "Remove Security Update for Windows Internet Explorer 8 (KB2559049)" for my machine running Vista, and another machine running XP yesterday, but the XP machine is now not working again today.
Any suggestions?

Flocast,

This likely happened because you have your computer set to automatically install updates.  After you removed it the other day, it downloaded and installed it again.  You may have to remove the patch again and turn off automatic updates for now.

Thanks,
David

Microsoft installed this update again over the weekend, do you guys have a fix for this for XP users? I do not want to have to go through this every single Monday after my computer updates, furthermore, there must be a reason for this update, so it may be important to actually have it installed in our system. Thanks, Adam

I am also an XP user, and because I did not want to have to keep up with uninstalling the steady updates, I did not even try that workaround.  Instead, I have been manually  downloading my orders
while waiting for the fix.

--->If you could please update us on the status of the fix?  In other words, is it coming within a reasonable amount of time....or should I get another desktop? (because the workaround of uninstalling updates that might be valuable is not going to work for me)

I installed SM on a computer that is rarely used and had not been updated... Same problem. I think you may look into the recent Yahoo update as a possible cause.

What is the word? Is this problem beeing worked on?

Joanmarie and others,

Very sorry that this is taking longer than we had hoped.  Once we got into it we found that microsoft has created a big puzzle that we have to solve in order to get it to work on all platforms.  We found a fix for Windows 7 that ended up not working on Windows XP.  We are still searching for the solution that will work properly on both platforms.

Some users have still had problems with Windows 7 even after updating to Internet Explorer 9.  We did find a workaround that we believe will fix that:

1. Find the SuperManager shortcut on your desktop and right click on it
2. Choose "Properties"
3. Select the "Compatibility" tab
4. Check the option "Run this program as an administrator"
5. Press "OK" to save and close the shortcut properties

If you do not have the SuperManager shortcut on your desktop you can also perform these steps by right clicking on the item in your Start menu or the "All Programs" menu under the start menu.

Thanks,
David

What about Vista?

I posted earlier in this thread....we HAD XP and were able to get this working by removing the patch and disabling auto updates so it doesn't need to be continuously uninstalled.

NOW.....we have new computers and are trying to get super manager working.

Win 7 64bit IE9 . I swear before I was running super manager as administrator it was giving a 1002 error.

I read earlier in this thread, or somewhere else, that I should try running it as administrator. I'm doing this and now I'm getting the 1003 error. I also went into the fire wall and granted Inbound and Outbound access to the supermanager application.

What else do I need to try?

Thanks

We have upgraded to QB Enterprise 11 and have the following issues.

We can no longer inport into QB... I found the following work around..

- first we run SM with Admin mode. to get orders from Yahoo.
- Then I have to shut down SM and right click on SM and under Compatibily Mode uncheck everything and run SM this way to be able to Import orders into QB.

At least this is working on one computer, have not tested other in our office yet.

XP Users

New this morning is MS Explorer Security Update KB2586448. It appears to be a NEW offending Update! If you are like us, you have been removing KB2559049, but now we don't have to! However instead auto-update is installing the new one. Unfortunately for us, the result in Super Manager is the same: Unable to retrieve downloaded file (1003).

The same simple fix still applies. Remove the new update, and Super Manager runs flawlessly.

Dcmerchant,

I have an XP and I have not wanted to remove security updates because I feel they must be important... do you know if these updates are optional?

In other words, am I taking MS security updates too seriously?

Any advice or more input would be very helpful, as I would love to return to automatic downloading of my orders.

Thanks in advance,
Joanmarie

XP users: there are now 2 offending Microsoft IE security updates. As long as neither of these are installed, then SM "Download Orders" works flawlessly.

     1.   Security Update for Windows Internet Explorer (KB2559049)
     2.   Security Update for Windows Internet Explorer (KB2586448)

There is no harm in removing these 2 updates; even if you have to do it once a week, as we do, because of our automatically installing updates set to occur every Sunday night.

No biggy. Every Monday morning we check to be sure that neither of these are installed (removing them if present) and we are ready to go.

I had issues when update KB2559049 came out last month. Since discovering this, I removed that update and SM was able to download orders again and it has run seamlessly since. However, today, I am getting the 1003 error again.  I checked and no new updates (KB2559049 or KB2586448) have been installed on my system (Vista x86).  I've changed to running the program as administrator as well as turning off the User Account Control all to no avail.  What could be causing this issue again?

Please help.

Upon further investigation, I came across something rather interesting. When I select our entire range of orders (as far back as Oct 8th) and Update from Store Manager, it will get about six orders in and then the 1003 error pops up.  However, if I select a smaller range it downloads/updates the orders without any issues.  So I tested downloading only this week's order range (from Oct 14 to 19) and again, it will go about six or eight orders in and the 1003 stops the process. So I then removed the orders before where the error popped up from the range, and chose Update again, and it would again only get a few in before the error halted it all.  I was able to download all the orders from Oct 8 to date, but had to do it in increments.  New orders are still being automatically downloaded however, which is interesting, because last time this all occurred, I wasn't even getting the new orders.

I don't know if this is all related or not, but since the 1003 error is still in the midst of it all, I thought I'd add this latest development.

Thanks,

Tara

Don't know what happened, as I was deleting kb....etc windows update once a week, and that was a work around for SM not being able to retrieve orders.

Since yesterday, I am back to the initial problem.  Cannot download orders, getting the 1003 error message, even though I deleted most recent windows updates (the update numbers were new, and I still deleted because the original update number series was no longer showing up).

Should I update SM to most recent beta version?  Any help would be appreciated.

Joanmarie, All,

We do have a beta version out that should resolve this issue.  We have released it to a few people initially to get some initial feedback before releasing it to a broader audience.  We have had good feedback from those who have installed it so far.  You can update to the recent beta and should be able to install all updates from Microsoft without having this problem occur.  Please keep the feedback coming and thanks for each of your patience in this matter!

I did download version 1.4.7.8, and with that version did get the "United Arab Emeriates"  however the orders were downloading okay.

After I corrected the issue by going into the Default Country setting (set it to U.S.) my orders
stopped coming into SM.

I did go and upgrade to 1.4.7.9, and still getting errors.  Here's what's happening:

When I click on SM icon to open the program I get "could not initialize Internet Explorer all online functions will be disabled."  Then SM does open.  At that point when it goes to download there is a box which comes up: "unknown error downloaded orders....."

--->Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Joanmarie,

This can happen when one or multiple instances of Internet Explorer get stalled in the background.  You can press ctrl-shift-esc and look on the processes tab for one or more "iexplorer.exe" instances on the list to confirm that is the problem.  You can either select each "iexplorer.exe" on the list and choose "End Task" until all of them are gone or restart your computer and SuperManager should start working again as normal.

Thanks,
David
