We're having a super weird email issue with our new store. I used the exact same template from our other stores for our "shipped" email, but whenever I try to send one, I get this really weird message from McAfee email scan...

"Email scanning encountered a problem: this email message cannot be sent. After you verify the format of your recipient addresses, McAfee recommends that you resend those messages from your email program.
Command received: 451 See http://cr.yp.to/docs/smtplf.html"

Well, resending them doesn't work. And it's not the format of the addresses unless every single one of our customers AND my address are all wrong. That link has information on Bare LF's, whatever that means.

The test email that you can send to verify SM's email settings works, as do all my other email templates. And it's the EXACT SAME template from the other stores, where it works just fine!

I attached a txt version of the email template. let me know if you figure anything out.

Kyla,

I suppose that you have the company_name and company_phone settings filled in so these lines would not be left blank?

Thanks,

Correct. I filled in the "fax" and "contact" fields just to make sure, but it didn't help.

Hey Ben,
Does your company name have any strange characters in it?
like apostrophes, quotes, <, >, commas etc..
Just try a few alpha characters and see if that improves things.
Thanks!
Mike

No, it's just "AlwaysMod.com"... I tried removing the dot, so it was just "AlwaysMod," but that didn't fix it.

Hey Ben,
I'd turn off McAffee email scan then and see if that fixes the problem.
Thanks!

Strangely, and somewhat frighteningly, this does not work at all. I turned off outgoing email scanning, it tells my my computer is not fully protected, and yet it still stops all those emails.

Hey Ben,
I'm not sure what to suggest.  I'm very sorry that you are having this problem.

The SuperManager uses a very simple method for sending email and thousands of emails are sent daily by all of our users.  It sounds like an environment problem specific to that computer.  You could contact microsoft or any of the manufacturers of the firewall software that you have to see if they have any explanation of why all the emails are being stopped.

Thanks and good luck!
Mike

finnstyle,

Here is something you may want to try - switch to using the default mail client for sending your messages.  To do this go to "View" | "Store Settings..." in SuperManager and choose the "Email Settings" tab.  Check the option "Use Default Mail Client".  This will cause SuperManager to try to send emails through outlook/outlook express or whatever your default mail client is.  Give this a try and see if it works.  Test it out before relying on it.  One advantage of this method is you can retain a copy in your "Sent Items" folder using this method.

Thanks,
David

It took me most of the day, but I figured it out! I'll walk you through what I did, in case anyone else is getting these same errors.

Turning off McAfee completely, when I try to send the email, I get the *SM* error message:

"SMTP Error: Message body rejected
451 See http://pobox.com/~djb/docs/smtplf.html."

Clicking OK just lets me send the message again, to get the same error.

Using Outlook to send the email works, except the HTML code does not. First I thought Outlook was the culprit, but it was already set to HTML format. So it was definitely an issue within SM, not our computer, as the error message comes from SM.

It was the HTML not working that gave me the idea to check the SM settings for that email, and sure enough, it was as simple as checking the "send as HTML" box to fix the whole problem.

Maybe you could add a new feature that any email template containing "<a href=" have this box automatically checked, so this problem could be prevented for any other people as unobservant as I!
